Season 2 Season 4

"It's Not Easy Being Green" is the twelfth episode of the third season of Eureka.

Synopsis[]

Tess needs Carter to round up power sources from around town but they begin to go missing. Meanwhile, pranks between the bowling teams of Global Dynamics and Area 51 get out of hand.

Plot[]

Lexi and Carter are arguing over Duncan's reaction to her being pregnant. Carter doesn't think Lexi handled the situation well and Lexi is of the opinion Carter never takes her side.

At Café Diem the town's bowling team is preparing for its annual grudge match with rivals Area 51. The Area 51 team walks in, and captain Bismarck quickly begins talking trash.

Carter meets with Tess and Allison. They want him to collect all the Globidium (artificial plutoniumish power source made by GD) in town. They won't tell him what they need it for.

Carter and Henry spot a man trying to leave town in a Globidium-powered car that happens to be missing its power cell.

During warm-ups the Eureka and Area 51 teams exchange practical jokes. Bismarck shakes hands with Fargo and the Eureka team turns green.

The team tracks down Henry and Carter looking for help and Henry realizes that they team is now radioactive. They have elevated levels of gamma radiation, essentially equivalent to a sunburn.

Duncan shows up at Lexi's place. They agree he had a right to know she was pregnant earlier, but she tells him to return to his life.

Bismarck tells Carter the Area 51 team had nothing to do with the stolen Globidium.

Duncan runs into Zoe at Café Diem. He says he knows how to fix the green bowlers. Vincent mentions that the cafés source of Globidium was recently worked on by the bowling teams' ringer, Big Ed Fowler. Big Ed cleaned everything and is also linked to the stolen power cell in the car.

Allison and Tess talk about the amount of Globidium they have collected. It is still not enough to power their laser telescope and follow the mysterious signal. They only have 24 hours left to get a read on the signal. Allison tells Tess that she and Carter are "just friends."

Jo and Carter go to Big Ed's laboratory at GD. There they find the missing power cells, as well as a melted Big Ed. Allison and Tess don't think Globidium could have killed him. Henry tells them the power cells in his lab were empty. Henry finds that Big Ed's body, despite being green, did not have high levels of radiation. It was as if someone "drained" Big Eds body of its radiation.

Fargo tells Carter Big Ed kept to himself and had a pet.

Duncan works on removing the green from Lucas. Lexi shows up and sees Duncan is still in town.

Allison tells Carter that Big Ed was a cleaner in the sense that he worked on contamination control. He used microorganisms to return metals or chemicals to their original state. Tess and Allison learn that Big Ed had a microorganism named "Spot" that ingested gamma radiation. Carter looks down and sees a grate in the floor of the lab. We cut to Fargo covering himself in Duncan's green-removing paste in the shower. A green blob oozes out of the shower grate and goes for Fargo's foot. Carter is able to push Fargo away just before Spot can grab his foot.

Lexi tells Allison about Duncan still being in town. She doesn't want him to change because of the babies. Allison regrets not having the father of her children around to help raise them.

Henry closes the valves to keep Spot contained within GD. Henry can't find any radiation signature and Carter suggests using bait.

Lexi blows off Duncan yet again.

Returning to Tess' office they see the remaining Globidium is gone, and that Spot is now much, much larger. Carter, Henry and Tess barely escape into the elevator. Carter suggests freezing Spot, since Spot didn't seem to like the cold-water Fargo was showering with.

Duncan gets a coffee to go on his way out of town. Zoe tells him Carter women need to be fought for.

Henry rigs a freezing gun for Carter to use on Spot. With Henry guiding him, Carter tracks Spot in the basement. Spot gets a hold of Carter's leg. He is able to temporarily freeze Spot and send it back into the vents. The next idea is to use Duncans green-removing compound on Spot.

Carter has Bismarck hand over the device he used to turn the Eureka bowling team green. Just then they hear the sound of Spot breaking through the valves and leaving GD. The final source of Globidium is SARAH, and Carter finds out Lexi is home eating dinner.

With Spot already in the drains and SARAH no longer answering Lexi, Duncan shows up at the house. He tells Lexi he wants to be involved in the children's lives. Spot comes up behind them and grabs Duncan. Carter arrives and tosses a bowling ball filled with the compound directly into Spot. Spot quickly dies. Lexi and Duncan are going to be married and leave town.

Fargo nails a rather unusual 7-10 split to beat Area 51.

The window to analyze the signal has closed. Allison tells Tess the belief is that whatever is coming is not friendly and GD is preparing a defense system.

Memorable Quotes[]

  • Fargo: Fargo smash!

Jack: No, Fargo will not smash.

  • Fargo: This, is, Eureka! (said in the style of King Leonidas' response to Xerxes' messenger in the film 300)

Notes[]

  • In the show Fargo and Bismarck are rivals. In the United States, the city of Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota, however, people commonly think that the capital is Fargo.
  • The title is taken from a song sung by Kermit the Frog, although the team members (especially Fargo) see far more of a Hulk connection to their new hue. That link is emphasized by their decision to turn the Area 51 bunch red, the color of a later version of the gamma monster.
    • Kermit is further referenced when Tess says, "It's actually a pretty color." Carter replies, "Yeah, if you're a Muppet."
