Lucas became Zoe's lab partner and then boyfriend. According to Pilar Reed he has the third highest recorded IQ, but this may have been sarcasm.
He wanted Zoe to pursue robotics instead of medicine because MIT (where he was headed) didn't have a medical program. Zoe and Lucas both went to Massachusetts, with Lucas going to MIT for robotics and Zoe going to Harvard.
